A Guide to the Festival and to Pavia
- Pavia in August is hot and wet with a chance of rain. There is no dress code for the concerts, but at least one of them will be in a church: please have with you proper clothes for sacred places.
- During the composition colloquium you will be able to show slides / scores (with a projector) and to play music. Prepare about 20 minutes of presentation and let about 10 minutes for comments and discussion. The composition colloquium is the perfect spot to present yourself to the other participants and to the faculty: talk about WHO you are, WHAT you do, HOW you do it and eventually WHY you do so. Try to explain what are your interests and artistic issues, and let them listen a representative score of your style (but avoid MIDI mockups!). Don’t just play music: talk about it and about you!
- During the individual lessons present a work in progress or a small number of your scores for which you feel you need advices, rather than trying to offer a complete view about your music.
- During the check-in you will receive a transportation pass that will allow you to get all the city buses for free during the festival days. The three bus stops that are very close to the university campus where you will be hosted are Cascinazza/Maugeri, Maugeri (Ist. Maugeri-Mondino) and Cascinazza/Ferrata. The two bus stops that are very close to the Conservatory Vittadini where all the lessons will be held are Gorizia (Mura Spagnole) and Cairoli/Emanuele Filiberto. At this link you can find the pdf of the timetable of the line three that connects them. During the city tour of the morning of Tuesday, 6th we are going to show you all you will need about it!
- You will be able to connect to Wi-Fi both in your room at the Campus and at the Vittadini. At the campus use the following: username highscore, password highscore (no capital letters!). You will receive a personal username and password for the Vittadini WiFi on Tuesday, 6th.
